Would like to share my experience with all of you to be careful when paying with Credit Cards.
Was at AMP Square Sunway Pyramid yesterday 30/10/2009 nite. (the only place i used my card yesterday) When it was time to pay, i gave my card unsuspiciously to the waiter. Half an hour later they came back and told me that my card could not go thru. They told me they tried to use sticky tape to clean the chip and wiped it. But when I got back the card the chip was pratically ripped out from its place. There are 2 things which I should have done there and then.
1. Call up the bank to enquire why my payment did not go thru
2. And be suspicious that the chip was ripped out.
So during midnite till morning, while i was sound a sleep and unsuspicious, the unscrupulous A**holes swiped my card 7 times. The first three was small transactions at petrol kiosks. This avoided triggering the banks suspicions. Then the subsequent ones were large amounts around the thousand mark. And at other karaokes. Some how the bank did not call us to verify. So is this partly the weak card system in Malaysia to blame?
Now I have to go thru all the hassle of blocking the card, lodging a report and going to the bank to clear up all this matter not to mention the police station.
Its really sad that there are unscrupulous and unethical people who abuse the weakness of our banking laws to their own benefits and hurt the innocent. They should be put away and thought a good lesson. Though I would like to stress that the AMP Square management may or may not hace knowledge of this SCAM, some sort of screening should be done on the people the hire.
